It makes a nice saying or Hollywood movie plot, but often it’s not possible for missionaries. It’s been 4 years since we have been home for the holidays.
To say we’re excited would be an understatement. Jacob and Parker don’t remember much about the cold weather and snow since they came to Uganda when they were young. On Tuesday it was rainy and cool here. Jacob told me he was the coldest person in the world. I can’t imagine how he will feel on Saturday night when we reach the states.
We hope while we are there, we will get to see many of you and reconnect. It’s always fun to see you and catch up. We have a whole list of things to do that mostly involve snow; sledding, building a snowman, snowball fights, seeing Santa, drinking hot cocoa when the weather is actually cold, ice skating, etc. So if you’re around and would like to do some of that with us, or just have lunch and conversation, we would love to meet up.
We are purposely taking a slow pace. The last 4 years have been incredible fast paced for us, even in the slowness of Ugandan culture. So we’re taking these six weeks to enjoy the time we have with you. Here is our schedule, send us a message if something works with yours.
Dec. 15-21 (Omaha, NE) | Dec. 22-25 (Beatrice, NE) | Dec. 27-Jan 6 (Michigan) | Jan 10-13 (Michigan) | Jan 15-20 (Omaha, NE)
While in America we don’t want to spend a lot of time fundraising, we want to enjoy time with each other, with you, with family. We do however need to cover some of our cost for traveling. We decided this was the year to come home because of the kids ages and how important it is to see them spend Christmas with family. We also are in need of rest so we can come back fully energized and healthy.
I never used to understand why missionaries take furlough, but I truly get it now. Burnout is a real thing and we are not there yet, but we have learned to recognize that it is coming. We need to make sure to rest before it is too late, so that was another major reason for us to come at this time.
It’s our goal to raise $4,000 by the end of December and set us up for success heading into the new year. Please click the link and make a donation to our end of the year goal.
