Bashir lives with his mother and father together with his siblings. He is the fourth born of 10 children. His mother is unemployed and his father owns a retail shop in one of the trading towns in Kampala.
The family has access to clean water as the community borehole was constructed right next to their home. They don’t have electricity in their home and so they use a kerosene lantern at night. The family is big but even with their small house and lack of basic needs; you can sense joy and contentment among the family members. They struggle a lot with school fees and pray that God helps them in this area.
The family is strong in the Muslim faith but young Bashir heard the gospel for the first time in his life at a nearby village crusade. Thanks to Rising Star he can now read the bible and through the bible classes he has grown to appreciate the Christian faith.
Bashir has to travel four miles to school, he is currently in senior one and hopes to be a doctor one day.
He is grateful for the opportunity Rising Star has given him. At Rising Star he has been able to make new friends, learn to read and become a better soccer player. He is a boy of very few words but a very sweet smile that says it all.
