The unsung heroes of Rising Star are our staff, who do a great job showing Christ’s love to the community daily. Our dedicated staff loves the community and the kids they serve. These are the people who not only work in their positions, but also serve as mentors, counselors, aunts & uncles, and so much more. This group of amazing Christ followers works tirelessly to impact lives and go above and beyond to be a blessing to the kids at Rising Star.

What is more exciting is that we are seeing the fruits of the labor! Five of our staff members were once children in Rising Star’s programs. A goal from the beginning was to uplift future leaders from the local community and have them lead the ministry. It is so exciting to see this happening!

Board of Directors

Pastor Kiragga Stephen has been a board member since 2010. His church, Kasangati Full Gospel Church is a thriving church in the community that Rising Star serves. It is one of the few churches in the area that places a high emphasis on children’s ministry. His passion for young people help make him a great fit to help lead Rising Star.
 
Dr. Ernest Katwesigye serves as a government lawyer, author, and Bible scholar. He serves as a deacon at his local church and is the director of Transform Education Centre; a secondary school in Uganda. He has served on the board of directors since 2010 for Rising Star. He is also a great role model for our students.
Josh Schofield grew up in the metro-Detroit area, but met a Texas girl in college and the rest is history. Josh is a custom home builder in Dallas, Texas, with a background in digital marketing. He and his wife Danielle live in Lake Highlands with their 2 daughters and 2 dogs. He has been a board member since 2013.
Ivan Hewines is a CPA with Plante & Moran, PLLC in Auburn Hills, MI. He has a passion for missions and has participated in short-term missions trips. He has also participated in several short-term mission subcommittees through his local church. He joined Rising Star Ministries Inc. as Treasurer in 2021.

Founders/Directors

Matt and Brecka Arnett have led Rising Star since it began in 2010. The Arnett’s now
live in Grand Rapids, MI but continue to lead the ministry with the help of strong local leadership. They believe that education can change the future for children and sports provide the hope and discipline needed to help achieve goals in life. Those are the key entry points to sharing the love of Christ with the community. More than anything, the Arnett’s want to show that having a relationship with Jesus is fun and will give everlasting life and hope to a community in need.
